The Makronissos Tombs are located on the very westerly outskirts of Ayia Napa, in the neighbouring locality of Makronissos. This truly ancient burial sight has been excavated by the Department of Antiquities, who has discovered around 20 different rock-cut tombs. These Neolithic chambers can be reached by a series of steps and it soon becomes apparent that the whole site used to function as a small quarry. Close by, Makronissos Beach is on hand if you find it hard to drag yourself too far away from the sand.
